A Deal with the Devil

Very sad situation for powerless and injured workers...everyone here knows Hanjin is a dangerous place...but no choice for breadwinners...and the Philippine government is of course complicit because they are desperate for foreign investment....biggest single foreign employer in the Philippines, around 20K local jobs ...people will inevitably be injured in on the job accidents in dangerous occupations like shipbuilding, but a company as big as this can surely afford to give them a modicum of compensation, that's the deal between ownership and labor in most civilised countries...many Koreans are abusive arrogant mannerless animals...they were the worst of the prison guards used by the Japanese in the POW camps in WW2...and because of their economic clout, they have been given free rein in Subic and in Clark they are everywhere, slowly but surely muscling out other foreigners, many of them are Korean mafia here in Angeles, in bed with the corrupt police...they do pretty much whatever they want...that's what Philippines gets for throwing the US bases out in 1991...they didn't like American control? We see how they like the Koreans...a deal with the devil...

  1. Perhaps the PH attracks the type of people you mention because of how they themselves do business. Often sacrificing their own for money but really this is the same. I don't see Koreans that way unless of course the PH allows them to be. Which would be the same as what I see from Filipinos, Americans, Australians, Germans... In the military days there were many with legitimate jobs, oddly many of those people have forgotten those skills so I assume it was not only the skill but the infrastructure that created the result. But also with the military was the huge prostitution industry which made some local people very rich and I'm not talking about the working girls/guys. The whole country could do with less of that and the reputation. There are much greater social ills being hidden than the issues brought up. How many incidents/deaths have there been by a comprable Filipino company? How was that handled? Korean bashing is currently popular here in PH but we need to remember it can easily be turned on anyone. I don't think the PH people or the development of the local area was better off with the US military here. The US base was here as a visitor with a lease not "control". I think many of the older returning Americans are sad they have lost that influence in the local community. Odd how many of those old guys run bars with lots of girls...I'm suspect.

  2. Perhaps the PH attracts people like those you mention because of how they are willing to do business. But then selling out their own for the money isn't that different now than then. It is just a different type of business & a different customer. Korean bashing is currently popular here and I believe it could easily switch to any nationality. How would a comparable Filipino company be reported and held to the letter of the law? The US wasn't here as "American control" they were here with a lease which made some people very rich. The ruputation of this place is moving toward industry and tourism which is better than prostitution. I know Filipinas now who won't be seen with a foreign guy for fear she'll be called a hooker. OMG the things you say of Koreans are so biased as if no other nationality or country was as bad as those Korean guards back in WW2. I think you are in denial.
