Marcos era in the early eighties many visitors to Manila were aware of the fact
that there had been a few hotel fires in the Philippine capital. In fact there
was a suggestion it might have been the work of the NPA. Anyway, as a result
many visitors to Ermita from Hong Kong would always stay on the first floor so
that they could leap from there in relative safety in the event of a blaze. But
I don't know if that would have worked in the Dryden tragedy.
